BEACH-BOUND VACATIONERS FILL UP OCEAN LAKES FAMILY CAMPGROUND IN MYRTLE BEACH DESPITE ECONOMY

America’s Largest And Best RV Park Is Nearly Sold Out For Memorial Day As Families Choose Camping For This Year’s Vacation

May 19, 2009, Myrtle Beach, SC – Ocean Lakes Family Campground, a subsidiary of The Jackson Companies, has reservations for more than 97 percent of its 893 campsites for Memorial Day Weekend. Located along the Atlantic Ocean beachfront in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Ocean Lakes is on 310 oceanfront acres and is the largest campground on the East Coast, as well as one of the largest in the United States.

While many are predicting that tourism will be down significantly at beach resorts this summer, Ocean Lakes is seeing an increasing number of families turning to camping for their summer vacations. In addition to being nearly sold out for Memorial Day Weekend, Ocean Lakes is seeing an increase in reservations for the key summer months of June and July in 2009. Reservations for June 2009 versus June 2008 are up 23%, and for July 2009, reservations are up 34% over 2008.

More good news is emerging in the form of projected reservations. 2007 was a record year for Ocean Lakes and reservations for 2009 are already trending toward a 12% increase over 2007 reservations for campsite nights.
“Camping is an affordable and family-oriented vacation option,” said Barb Krumm, director of marketing and public relations for Ocean Lakes Family Campground. “It’s also a great way for a family to control their costs during vacation. Unlike other campgrounds, Ocean Lakes’ campsites are all inclusive — no add-on fees for additional people, pets, or even air conditioning.  And, we have so much to offer that a family vacationing here never has to leave the campground unless they want to. All they have to do is bring their bathing suits and their camping equipment and we have everything else on site. From food to all kinds of entertainments and amusements, the campground is the perfect choice for a great summer vacation. Some family members can just relax on the beach while others enjoy an activity!”

Rentals Still Available
Although Ocean Lakes’ campsites are essentially full for Memorial Day, there are still some on-site beach houses available through Ocean Lakes’ rentals office. Web users can view site availability and check rates on multi-room beach houses at www.olp.com.

“Many vacationers don’t own a camper nor do they like to tent camp, so a beach house is a great — and very affordable — option,” says Krumm. “With a rental house, they can enjoy everything the campground has to offer and still save money.”

Campground Offers Amenities And Events
Campers and RV enthusiasts who come to Ocean Lakes enjoy exceptional amenities including nearly a mile of pristine ocean beachfront, a two-acre Recreation Center with year round planned activities, a marine life Nature Center, eight freshwater lakes for fishing, and a 24-hour courtesy/security patrol. In addition, there is pull-through motorhome parking in Ocean Lakes’ secured trailer storage lot; a specially-designed pet welcome program; and Sandy’s Down Under (SDU) Skate Park for tweens and teens 12 to 16 years old.

Throughout the summer and fall, Ocean Lakes offers special scheduled activities such as an authentic Hawaiian Luau weekly featuring entertainment with dancers, music and dinner; the Ocean Lakes Billabong Surf Camp; a Field of Dreams Baseball Camp; the Ocean Lakes 11th Annual Premier Bluegrass Weekend featuring Rhonda Vincent & The Rage; and Ocean Lakes’  spectacular 4th of July celebration that includes Ocean Lakes’ Annual Dress Your Pet Celebration.
