Ocean Lakes Family Campground announces Sandy Harbor Expansion to Open in 2027

New Building for a larger Indoor Pool with Body Slides, Kids Splash Pool, Food Service, and Expanded Game Center, plus an Outdoor Resort-Style Pool with Cabanas

July 2, 2026 – Myrtle Beach, SC | Ocean Lakes Family Campground, a division of The Jackson Companies, in Myrtle Beach, S.C., celebrated the campground’s 55th Birthday by announcing Phase 2 of its Core Area Master Plan, which will include several amenities. Ocean Lakes is expanding its indoor and outdoor pool facilities and improving the Sandy Harbor Game Center. Construction begins this fall after Labor Day, and we plan to have all new facilities ready for Memorial Day Weekend in 2027.

The Sandy Harbor additions will feature a new outdoor resort-style pool with 6,114 sq. ft. of water surface (36% larger) and private cabanas. The new 24,327 sq. ft. indoor facility will include a new food service operation, kids’ splash pool and aquatic play area, two body slides, and a 235% larger indoor pool featuring a channel with a stronger water current for exercise. This year-round facility will be a climate-controlled building. In addition to aquatics and food service, the Game Center will expand into the existing Sandy Harbor Café area to provide more space for more games, which equals more excitement for guests! The indoor facility will also include a second floor with office space, a break room, storage space, and additional space for meetings or private functions.

Construction involves demolishing three existing amenities. The existing “Olympic-sized” outdoor pool, featuring 4,500 sq. ft., was constructed in the 1970’s. The “all seasons” indoor pool was built in 1997. Both pool facilities will be removed to make room for the new, larger pools. Ocean Lakes will remove Sandy Harbor Mini Golf to bring Phase 2 to life. Due to the popularity of the Mini Golf Course, Ocean Lakes is working on relocating the course to a nearby location; more details to come. All three areas will be used for new construction and for staging materials, supplies, and equipment within the Sandy Harbor perimeter.

“These improvements will give our Guests and Leaseholders more options during our shoulder seasons and winter months,” explains Greg Bender, Vice President and General Manager of Ocean Lakes. “The additions to Sandy Harbor will improve our guests’ experience, and position Ocean Lakes as a top vacation destination year-round, not only along The Grand Strand, but also along the entire East Coast for years to come.”

In direct communications to Ocean Lakes’ Teammates, Leaseholders, and current Guests, Ocean Lakes explained that several amenities will close during construction. “The original Indoor and Outdoor Pools and Mini Golf will shut down September 8, 2026, for demolition. We plan to utilize the Adventure (lazy) River as our pool, as conditions permit, considering weather and construction-related issues such as dust and dirt; everyone will work to minimize the impact to our guests as much as possible.”

In 2016, Ocean Lakes Family Campground implemented Phase 1 of its Core Area Master Plan, Sandy Harbor Water Park, a much-needed amenity for our Guests and Leaseholders.
