Our team receives a great deal of feedback from our guests. Scooters and eBikes topped their list of concerns. We have been monitoring this issue for some time while considering a course of action that is fair to all.
While all scooters, both electric and non-electric, are expected to follow campground rules and operate safely at all times, concerns related to speed, size, and usage of electric scooters and electric bikes have prompted the need for additional measures.
Scooters are smaller, and both electric Scooters and eBikes are faster, kids dart out in front of vehicles, and even some adults operate them in a careless manner. The issue is troublesome to many.
To ensure the safety of all guests, Ocean Lakes is implementing new policies specific to electric Scooters and electric Bikes only. Please note: regular (non-electric) scooters are still required to follow all campground rules, but are not required to be registered.
Please understand, many campgrounds are prohibiting these modes of transportation; we do not want it to come to that.
The new electric Scooter and eBike Policies will be effective beginning February 1, 2026. Please note that these policies do not apply to mobility scooters or motorized wheelchairs.

Height & Age Requirements
- All electric scooters and eBikes must be a minimum of 36” in height (measured from the ground to the top of the handlebars).
- We recommend that children under 8 years old be accompanied by an adult.
Scooter & eBike Registration Required
All privately-owned electric Scooters and eBikes must be registered at the Recreation Building (in the Recreation Office). Registration is free. Please note: regular (non-electric) scooters are still required to follow all campground rules, but are not required to be registered. Guests will receive a Registration Band to attach to their electric Scooter or eBike. The band must be visible at all times while the vehicle is in the campground. If lost, see Recreation for a replacement band.
Responsibility for Minors
We recommend that children under 8 years of age be accompanied by an adult at all times. Parents and Guardians must accept full responsibility and liability for their minor(s) that they allow to operate or ride an electric Scooter or eBike, including supervision and compliance with all rules.
Riding Rules

* A pedal assist electric bike, or eBike, is a bicycle that uses an electric motor to provide assistance while pedaling, making it easier to ride, especially on hills or longer distances. This type of bike allows riders to enjoy the experience of cycling while receiving a boost from the motor when needed.
