Ocean Lakes Family Campground is excited to announce our partnership with the Billabong Surf Camp Program. Ocean Lakes Surf Camp was established in the summer of 2004 and is part of summer activities schedule (June to mid-August). Hundreds of Ocean Lakes’ guests, ages 10-16, have participated in the camp. “Ocean Lakes has an extensive activity calendar with something for all ages, but we have been focusing on creating activities that would appeal to the young teens. They can be a tough crowd to please,” explains Craig Culbreth, Ocean Lakes’ Recreation Director. “We have nearly a mile of Atlantic Oceanfront, so surfing is natural,” says Culbreth, an avid surfer himself. “A partnership with Billabong helped us turn our surf camp “up a notch.” Since 1973 Billabong has grown into one of the world’s leading manufacturers of surf accessories with products sold in more 100 countries. There are only about dozen Billabong Surf Camps on the East Coast and less than 4-dozen in the world! Ocean Lakes is honored to be part of this elite group. Billabong supplies participants a bag of Billabong souvenirs including a Billabong/Ocean Lakes camp tee, a Billabong DVD, a 12-month subscription to Transworld Surf Magazine, a Billabong Team Poster and Billabong stickers. A visit from a Billabong Team Member is always a possibility, depending on their schedules. Billabong also provides the surfboards. Surftech Softtops, are the official surfboard of Billabong Camps, and are the perfect board for the beginner to intermediate surfer. They are the lightest entry level board on the market and extremely safe because the nose and rails of the board are wrapped in soft EVA rubber.
 
Ocean Lakes is proud to offer its younger guests the opportunity to learn the “Sport of Kings.” Participants of the 3-day Surf Camp get instruction on safety, surf etiquette, coastal and marine ecology, and surfboard shaping. Our experienced surf instructors who are CPR trained and will share their knowledge and expertise surfing the Atlantic. Certified lifeguards are on duty. The camp has limited space providing a small group setting and more attention to each participant.
 
Surf Camp is open to all Ocean Lakes’ guest ages 10-16, beginning June 4 - August 17, 2007. Participants have their choice of either Monday through Wednesday, or Wednesday through Friday, 8 AM – 11 AM (according to availability). The camp is open to all Ocean Lakes’ guests and is $75 per person which includes 3-days of surfing instruction using our Surftech Softtops, and no previous experience is required. Guests need to wear their bathing suit and bring: a beach towel, waterproof sunscreen (non-greasy and at least 30 SPF), sunglasses, sun hat, tee-shirt/cover-up, snacks and drinks. Surfers are welcome to bring their own surfboards and wetsuits.
