Craft Vendor Policy effective January 1, 2011. (See policies effective through 12/31/10 below.)
Ocean Lakes made a fair and reasonable compromise to our craft policy during 2010 in an effort to accommodate both our guests who enjoy the craft sales and those who did not. Unfortunately, this compromise failed and we have had to reconsider our policies. The sales of crafts and other items/services in the park has taken us away from our true mission statement of providing a safe, friendly family campground and resort for vacationers. Therefore, effective January 1, 2011 Ocean Lakes Family Campground will no longer permit leaseholders or guests to sell any item anywhere in the park. Failure to comply with this policy may result in the removal of the guest and/or jeopardize the annual leaseholder’s site lease. Ocean Lakes will still continue special events such as the annual craft fair.
This policy change was unanimous and was the result of continued problems encountered with the craft sales program. These included unbecoming behavior directed at our teammates and other crafters, abusive language, physical threats and threats of lawsuits all of which will not be tolerated. It is sad it had to come to this, however Ocean Lakes must maintain its mission of providing a safe, family campground and resort for our guests, leaseholders and teammates.
A Letter about Craft Sales for 2010:
Historically, Ocean Lakes Family Campground has allowed the selling of “hand-crafted” unique-type items from campsites and annual lease sites. In the past year or two, however, this practice was abused and guests began selling commercially or mass-produced items, food and or drink items, clothes, shoes or other accessories, and personal services such a temporary tattoos and hair-braiding, among other things. As you can understand, this has completely gotten away from our mission and purpose as a family camping and resort area, and has even begun to negatively impact the enjoyment of guests adjacent to those involved in these types of activities. For that reason, we have found it
necessary to make changes in this policy.
We appreciate your understanding in this matter and hope that you enjoy the new event we created for the enjoyment of all of our guests.
Sincerely,
M. Lance Thompson
Vice President/General Manager
Ocean Lakes Family Campground
Craft Policy Guidelines Effective through December 31, 2010 are below (or download the 11 x 17 Craft Policy Guidelines in a PDF format).
Crafter’s Criteria:
Beginning January 1, 2010, only items hand-crafted by the exhibitor and of a unique and creative nature will be allowed to be sold in the park. No kits, commercially manufactured or bulk-processed items are permissible. Please keep in mind that only true handcrafted items will be allowed to be sold at any time of the year at Ocean Lakes at designated sales locations. In addition, we will not be able to allow any personal services such as temporary tattoos, hair-braiding, manufactured clothing, purses, belts, shoes, etc. (See the “Essence of Crafts” list.) Each type of item must meet this criteria and be pre-approved by the Recreation Department authorized teammates. Ocean Lakes reserves the right to approve or disapprove any items for sale.
Craft Vendor Permit Requirements
Craft vendor permits are required year round for any sale of craft items. The permit is obtained at the Recreation Office for $10. It lists the craft items pre-approved for sale in the campground. The Craft Vendor Permit must be displayed adjacent to the crafts for sale and visible to Ocean Lakes’ teammates. Basically, there are two seasons regarding a permit: summer and the shoulder seasons.
• Shoulder Seasons: For Annual Lease Site decal holders one permit for the spring shoulder season is valid starting January 1st and expires the Wednesday before Memorial Day. Another permit is needed for the fall shoulder season and is valid beginning on Labor Day and expires on December 31st. For campsite and rental guests, permits are valid for the length of stay during that visit (arrival until departure date). Crafted items will be allowed to be sold from campsites and annual lease sites, but will require the permit.
• Summer Season: During the summer “Craft Fair” events held on the oceanfront, a vendor permit is needed weekly and is valid for the Tuesday and
Thursday Craft Fair. A new permit will need to be obtained weekly beginning on Saturdays. The summer season is defined as the Wednesday before Memorial Day until the day before Labor Day. No items will be allowed to be sold from any campsite or annual lease site in the park during this time.
Craft Sales Locations
• Summer Season: During the busy summer season, defined as the Wednesday before Memorial Day until the day before Labor Day, no items at all will be allowed to be sold from any campsite or annual lease site in the park. During this time, however, guests and leaseholders who have acquired a proper permit from the Recreation Building will be allowed to sell pre-approved items in the golf car parking area located on the ocean front by the “B Section.” The “Craft Fair” will be held each Tuesday and Thursday evening, weather permitting, from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Exhibitors will be responsible for setting up their craft displays in this designated area at 6 PM and must end all sales at 10 PM. All displays must be removed and returned to the crafters site by 11 PM Quiet Hours. Ocean Lakes reserves the right to approve or disapprove any items for sale.
• Shoulder Seasons: Beginning on Labor Day and extending until the Tuesday before Memorial Day, sales of these same type hand-crafted items will be allowed from campsites and annual lease sites, but will also require a permit.
Rally Vendors
Special Consideration will be made for vendors that accompany various rallies hosted at Ocean Lakes throughout the year. These vendors must be registered with the rally organizer and may only sell goods related to camping and that are specific to the rally (name badges, coach signs, camping equipment, etc.).
Additional Policies:
• No campsite may be rented with the express intent to sell items, without actually staying at the site and being on vacation.
• Vendors are responsible for paying all applicable SC State sales tax at the proper time and location.
• No items can be sold by guests that may be purchased as a regular item at any retail area in the campground (Sandy Mart, Meet & Eat, Ocean Lakes RV Center, Golf Car Rentals & Sales, etc.) or outside the park at local businesses. (Please refer to Crafter
Criteria definitions above.)
•No food, drinks, snacks, produce, refreshments or other similar items may be sold by guests in the campground.
• The sale of approved items can only be displayed with no advertising, prices, phone numbers, web domains, or other signage. The display of goods to be sold must be approved by the Recreation Office and in good taste.
• For sale signs are not permitted in the campground. This includes any variation of such a sign, which includes but is not limited to...Inquire $, Inquire about me, Ask, Try me, I need a home, See me about this, etc.
Craft Policy Violations
Failure to comply with the guidelines and policies will void the Craft Vendor Permit, may result in the loss of the right to sell craft items and/or removal from Ocean Lakes Family Campground’s campsite or annual lease site.
